Dear Survivors, Relief
Workers & Volunteers of Hurricane Katrina:

I
am a Louisiana native(& SUBR graduate),
writing a book about the social atrocities and damage of Hurricane
Katrina, as told by Survivors, Relief Workers, and Volunteers like you.
This project is all about the survivors and it is in that
spirit that I’ve pledged to donate 50% of my proceeds from the
sales of this book to
to be equally distributed between the
following agencies that are working hard to help hurricane
survivors (Habitat for Humanity and Oprah Winfrey's Angel
Network).
If you are a survivor or know of someone who is and would like
to submit a story of survival please contact me using the
information below.
I've
have received a lot of submissions from Louisiana survivors
(and I hope to continue getting them) but, as it is my goal to
tell the entire scope of this disaster, I am in particular need
of stories from Mississippi and Alabama.
My younger brother, a Dillard
University student, was caught in the hurricane and survived.
I was in New Orleans & Baton Rouge and helped in the relief efforts of my home
state. Now I’m trying to help
by never letting the nation forget about this disaster, and
what it did not only to one of the greatest cities in the world, New Orleans; but in perspective, three of the
poorest states in the union. We will rebuild, get our people
home, and put our collective lives back together in time. This
is my effort to help expedite that process.
If you would like me to write your story
please send me an outline of the details to the email address
below. Please include your name,
contact information, a brief bio, and the exact details of where
you were during Hurricane Katrina; where you are now and how
you feel about the whole experience. Photos are also welcome,
especially of your house before and after the hurricane, and
of yourself of-course.
An online submission form is linked below for those who would like
to submit their story through this site.
If you do not have a survival story, please pass
this email on to your friends and encourage them to pass it on
as well. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Astrya Richard
p.s.
I have recently added a memorial section to this book. If you
have any family members that died in the disaster I will
gladly provide space in my book for their name and a few lines
about them. I
would like to include the names of everyone who died in this
tragedy but, out of respect, I will only do so with family
approval.
